Healthy Nails

The health industry is overflowing with products to improve and maintain ones health. Products range from supplements, to more natural food products (Organic), and countless exercise programs. These are all aimed at general wellness. If you could take an individual part of your body, say your nails, what can you do to improve them?

Healthy Nail Care:

  1. Healthy Fats believe it OR not, fat can be good for your body. The cells in your body are dependent on fat. A fat free OR low fat diet can lead to poor nail health. Of course we are not talking about just any fat. There are healthy fats. Examples: Olive oil, coconut oil, avocados, nuts, and seeds.
  2. Fish oil contains an important fatty acid; Omega-3. Most of us are deficient in this and by supplementing it can aid in the strength of your nails; meaning less brittle nails for you ladies. 3,000 mg is the recommended daily dose.
  3. GLA supplement like Omega-3, this is another fatty acid difficult to obtain from foot alone. This fatty acid will aid in strengthening brittle and slow growing nails. 600 mg is the recommended daily dose.
  4. Protein, Protein, Protein nails are made up of proteins called keratin. Protein is the major building block for growing strong, healthy nails. Adequate intake of chicken, fish, meat, eggs, and dairy are all great sources of protein.
  5. Eliminate nutrition depleting food and drinks foods and drinks with high contents of trans fats AND sugar depletes the nutritional needs that your nails need for healthy growth.

NOTE:not only are these great ways to improve and maintain the health of your nails, but they also promote hair health.

As with anything that you take into your body, it is a good idea to consult your primary care physician prior to ingesting. I would even go as far to say that adding a licensed Nutritionist is another weapon you can add in your arsenal for achieving not only nail health, but overall health.
